Bohinj, or the Bohinj Valley or Bohinj Basin, is a 20 km long and 5 km wide basin in the Julian Alps, in the Upper Carniola region of northwestern Slovenia. It is traversed by the Sava Bohinjka river. Its main feature is the periglacial Lake Bohinj. Bohinj is part of the Municipality of Bohinj, the seat of which is Bohinjska Bistrica.
Bohinj is a picturesque area located in the northwestern part of Slovenia and is surrounded by stunning mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and lush green forests. The area is named after Lake Bohinj, which is the largest permanent lake in Slovenia and is known for its stunning beauty. The lake is surrounded by the Julian Alps, which provide a dramatic backdrop to the already picturesque landscape.
One of the best ways to explore Bohinj is by hiking. The area is home to numerous hiking trails that offer breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature. The most famous trail is the one that leads to the Savica Waterfall, which is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia. The trail is challenging, but the views are worth the effort.
