Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.
Orvieto is a city and comune in the Province of Terni, southwestern Umbria, Italy, situated on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff. The city rises dramatically above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone.
As you make your way up the winding road towards the town, you'll soon see why Orvieto is such a popular destination. It sits atop a volcanic tuff cliff, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The town itself is like a living museum, with its narrow streets, historic buildings and charming piazzas.
One of the main highlights of Orvieto is its stunning Duomo, a magnificent cathedral that's considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Italy. The intricate façade is adorned with colorful mosaics and sculptures, while the interior boasts intricate frescoes and a beautiful rose window.
