Malalane, alternatively rendered Malelane, is a farming town in Mpumalanga, South Africa situated on the N4 national highway. The farms in the region produce sugarcane, subtropical fruit and winter vegetables. The town was proclaimed in 1949, after which it was named. The origin of the name is disputed but was corrupted from the Swazi. Either the expression "eMlalani" which means place of the palms, or the expression "lala" which means to sleep are accepted origins of the name. The town started as the first rest-stop between Lourenço Marques and Pretoria. As of July 2007 the town was officially renamed from "Malelane" to "Malalane" as part of the government's renaming scheme by the South African Geographical Names Council.
One of the main attractions of Malelane is its proximity to the Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Here, YOU can embark on a safari adventure and witness the famous Big Five animals – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, and buffalos. The park also boasts an impressive array of bird species, making it a bird watcher's paradise.
Apart from the wildlife, Malelane also offers a range of outdoor activities. YOU can explore the magnificent landscapes on foot with a guided hiking tour, go on a river rafting adventure, or simply relax and fish in the Crocodile River. For adrenaline seekers, there's also the opportunity to go on a hot air balloon ride and witness the breathtaking views from above.
