Gabiano is a rural comune in the northwest of the province of Alessandria, some 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Casale Monferrato. This area straddles the lowland immediately south of the Po and the furthest extension of the Monferrato hills. Its current population of some 1,250 has halved since mid-1930s.
Gabiano is located in the Monferrato area, known for its rolling hills and vineyards. The town is situated on a hilltop overlooking the Po River and is surrounded by stunning countryside. The town itself is a maze of narrow streets and alleys that lead to beautiful piazzas and historic buildings.
One of the most notable attractions in Gabiano is the Castello di Gabiano, a medieval castle that has been converted into a winery. The castle offers tours and tastings, as well as stunning views of the surrounding vineyards. The town also has a number of other historic buildings, including the Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Oratory of San Rocco.
