Ancona is a city and a seaport in the Marche region of central Italy. The city of Ancona has an estimated population of around 99,469 as of 2025. Ancona is the capital of the homonymous province and of the region. The city is located 280 km (170 mi) northeast of Rome, on the Adriatic Sea, between the slopes of the two extremities of the promontory of Monte Conero, Monte Astagno, and Monte Guasco. The hilly nature around Ancona is a strong contrast to the flatter coastline in areas further north.
If you're looking to explore the hidden gems of Italy, Ancona is the perfect place to start. Nestled on the eastern coast of the country, this picturesque town offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.
As WE take YOU on a journey through Ancona, let's start with its rich history. The town has been inhabited since the Greek and Roman eras, and the ancient ruins and historic landmarks are still visible today. The Arch of Trajan, built in 115 AD, is a must-visit attraction. It's a triumphal arch that was erected in honor of Emperor Trajan's victories in the Dacian Wars.
