Épernay is a commune in the Marne department of northern France, 130 km north-east of Paris on the mainline railway to Strasbourg. The town sits on the left bank of the Marne at the extremity of the Cubry valley which crosses it.
Épernay is known as the capital of Champagne, and for good reason. This quaint town is home to some of the most prestigious Champagne houses in the world, including Moët & Chandon and Perrier-Jouët. You can tour the cellars and learn about the process of making Champagne, or simply sip on a glass while enjoying the picturesque views of the surrounding vineyards.
But Épernay isn't just about Champagne. The town itself has a rich history and stunning architecture, including the impressive Avenue de Champagne, lined with grand mansions and palaces. Take a stroll through the town center, admiring the beautiful church of Notre-Dame and exploring the lively market on Saturday mornings.
