Zaragoza, traditionally known in English as Saragossa, is the capital city of the province of Zaragoza and of the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. It lies by the Ebro river and its tributaries, the Huerva and the Gállego, roughly in the centre of both Aragon and the Ebro basin.
As you walk through the streets of Zaragoza, you'll be transported back in time to the Roman Empire, as the city was founded by the Romans in 14 BC. The city is home to some of the most impressive Roman ruins in Spain, including the famous Roman Theatre, which is located in the heart of the old town.
But Zaragoza's history doesn't end with the Romans. The city was also an important center during the Muslim occupation of Spain, and the influence of Islamic culture can still be seen in the city's architecture and design. The Aljafería Palace, for example, is a stunning example of Islamic architecture, and is now home to the regional parliament of Aragon.
