Biarritz is a city on the Bay of Biscay, on the Atlantic coast in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the French Basque Country in southwestern France. It is located 35 kilometres (22 mi) from the border with Spain. It is a luxurious seaside tourist destination known for the Hôtel du Palais, its seafront casinos, and its surfing culture.
As you wander through Biarritz, you'll notice the town's elegant architecture and rich history. Once a small fishing village, Biarritz became a popular holiday destination in the mid-19th century when Napoleon III and his wife, Empress Eugenie, fell in love with the town's charm and began spending their summers here.
Today, Biarritz is a hub for surfers and beach-goers with its world-class waves and stunning beaches. The town's most famous beach is La Grande Plage, a long strip of sand that is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Another popular spot is Plage des Basques, which is known for its breathtaking views and excellent surfing conditions.
