Visegrád is a castle town in Pest County, Hungary. It is north of Budapest on the right bank of the Danube in the Danube Bend. It had a population of 1,864 in 2010. The town is the site of the remains of the Early Renaissance summer palace of King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary and a medieval citadel. The town was also the site of a meeting on 15 February 1991 between the President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, Václav Havel, the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Wałęsa, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary, József Antall which founded the titular Visegrád group.
As WE explore Visegrád, YOU will be transported back in time to the medieval era, where castles, knights, and kings ruled the land. One of the most iconic attractions in Visegrád is the Visegrád Castle, which was built in the 14th century and served as a royal residence for many years. From the top of the castle, YOU can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Danube River and the surrounding hills.
But the castle isn't the only historical landmark in Visegrád. WE highly recommend visiting the Royal Palace Ruins, which was once a grand palace that hosted many important events and meetings between kings and emperors. Today, YOU can still see the remnants of the palace, including the impressive Gothic-style portal.
