The Vaalkop Dam is a combined gravity and earth-fill type dam located in North West Province, South Africa. Its reservoir is located at the confluence of the Elands River and the Hex River, part of the Crocodile basin. The dam was established originally in 1972 and was renovated in 2008 in order to supply water for the platinum and associated metals mining operations in the area. The dam mainly serves for irrigation purposes, municipal water supply and industrial uses. The hazard potential of the dam has been ranked high.

The Vaalkop Dam is situated in the heart of the Bushveld, and it is the perfect place for camping and fishing. The dam is about 1,200 hectares in size and provides a habitat for a variety of fish species, including carp, catfish, and yellowfish. If you are an avid angler, the Vaalkop Dam is the perfect place to cast your line and catch some fish.

Aside from fishing, the Vaalkop Dam is also an excellent place for bird watching. There are over 340 bird species in the area, including African Fish Eagles, Pied Kingfishers, and Blue Waxbills. The dam is also home to various wildlife, such as impalas, kudus, and warthogs. You might even spot a leopard or two if you are lucky!
