Mazamet is a commune in the Tarn department of southern France, in the Occitanie region. It lies at the northern foot of the Montagne Noire, where the Arnette descends towards the valley of the Thoré. The town was a centre of woollen textiles and, later, délainage, the industrial removal of wool from sheepskins. Its former factories, merchants' houses and workers' neighbourhoods reflect that history.
As you explore the town, you’ll find that it’s steeped in history and tradition. One of the most notable landmarks is the Saint-Sauveur Church, which dates back to the 15th century. Its stunning Gothic architecture is a testament to the town’s rich cultural heritage.
Mazamet is also known for its outdoor activities. The nearby Black Mountain offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and cycling, with scenic routes that wind through picturesque villages and past sparkling lakes.
