Madaba is the capital city of Madaba Governorate in central Jordan, with a population of about 60,000. It is best known for its Byzantine- and Umayyad-period mosaics on Christian and Greco-Roman mythological subjects, especially a large Byzantine-era mosaic map of the Holy Land. Madaba is located on the Madaba Plateau, 30 kilometres south-west of the capital Amman.

Located just 30 kilometers south of Amman, Madaba is a city that is rich in history and culture. It's known as the "City of Mosaics" because of its impressive collection of ancient mosaics that can be found throughout the city. In fact, one of the most famous mosaics in the world, the Madaba Map, can be found here. This 6th-century map of the Holy Land is one of the oldest surviving maps of the region and is a must-see for any history buff.

But Madaba isn't just known for its mosaics. The city is also home to a number of important religious sites, including the Church of St. George, which houses the Madaba Map, and the Church of the Apostles, which has a stunning collection of Byzantine mosaics.
