Maasai Mara, sometimes also spelt Masai Mara and locally known simply as the Mara, is a large national game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. It is named in honour of the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, who migrated to the area from the Nile Basin. Their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara" means "spotted" in the Maa language because of the short bushy trees which dot the landscape.

As you venture into Masai Mara, you'll be surrounded by stunning landscapes, including rolling hills, towering escarpments, and meandering rivers. The reserve is home to over 95 species of mammals, including the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo), wildebeest, cheetahs, hyenas, and giraffes. You'll also spot over 570 bird species, making it a birdwatcher's paradise.

The Maasai people, who are the traditional inhabitants of the area, are known for their vibrant culture, colorful dress, and unique way of life. They live in traditional homesteads called Manyattas and practice pastoralism, where they rely on their livestock for their livelihood.
