Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Komárno, colloquially also called Révkomárom, Öregkomárom, Észak-Komárom in Hungarian, is a town in Slovakia at the confluence of the Danube and the Váh rivers. Historically, it was formed by the "old town" on the left bank of the Danube, present-day Komárno in Slovakia, and by a "new town" on the right bank, present-day Komárom in Hungary, which were historically one administrative unit. Following World War I and the Treaty of Trianon, the border of the newly created Czechoslovakia cut the historical, unified town in half, creating two new independent towns in two countries. Komárno and Komárom are connected by the Elisabeth Bridge, which used to be an official border crossing between Slovakia and Hungary until border checks were lifted due to the Schengen Area rules. In 2020, a new road bridge was opened.

As soon as you step into Komárno, you'll be captivated by its unique atmosphere. The town's picturesque streets are lined with historic buildings that showcase its rich cultural heritage. The most prominent landmark is the Komárno Fortress, which dates back to the 16th century and is one of the largest fortresses in Europe. You can explore the fortress's underground tunnels, ramparts, and courtyards and get a glimpse of its fascinating history.

If you're interested in learning about the town's culture and traditions, there are plenty of museums and galleries that you can visit. The Danube Museum is a must-see, featuring exhibits on the Danube River's ecology and history. The local art gallery showcases the works of talented Slovakian artists and is a perfect spot for art enthusiasts.
