Enschede is a city and municipality in the province of Overijssel and the Twente region of the eastern Netherlands. The east of the urban area reaches the border of the German town of Gronau.
One of the highlights of Enschede is its rich industrial heritage. The city was once a hub for textile production, and you can still see the remnants of this history in the form of old factories and warehouses. One such example is the Roombeek district, which was destroyed in a fireworks disaster in 2000 but has since been rebuilt as a modern, vibrant neighborhood with a mix of residential and commercial spaces.
Another must-visit destination in Enschede is the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, which houses an impressive collection of art ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. The museum's permanent collection includes works by Rembrandt, Rubens, and other Dutch masters, as well as contemporary pieces by artists such as Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso.
