Takachiho is a town in Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 October 2023, the town has an estimated population of 11,065 in 4865 households, and a population density of 47 persons per km2. The total area of the town is 237.54 square kilometres (91.71 sq mi).

One of the most popular attractions in Takachiho is the Takachiho Gorge, a narrow, 100-meter deep gorge carved by the Gokase River. Visitors can rent rowboats and paddle through the gorge, marveling at the towering cliffs and waterfalls. You can also take a walk along the gorge's walking trail, which offers different perspectives of the majestic scenery.

Another must-see in Takachiho is the Amano-Iwato Shrine, which is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. According to legend, Amaterasu hid in a cave here, causing the world to be plunged into darkness. The shrine's main hall is built over the cave and houses a sacred mirror, said to be a symbol of Amaterasu's divine presence.
