Mithymna is a town and former municipality on the island of Lesbos, North Aegean, Greece. Since the 2019 local government reform it is part of the municipality of West Lesbos, of which it is a municipal unit. Before 1919, its official name was Μόλυβος - Molyvos; that name dates back to the end of the Byzantine Era, but is still in common use today.
As you make your way through the winding streets of Mithymna, you'll be transported back in time to the medieval era. The town's most striking feature is its impressive castle, perched high on a hill overlooking the Aegean Sea. Dating back to the 14th century, the castle served as a stronghold for the island's rulers and is now a popular tourist attraction.
But Mithymna has more to offer than just its castle. The town is also home to a charming harbor, where you can watch fishing boats come and go or take a stroll along the promenade. The nearby beaches are some of the most beautiful on the island, with crystal-clear waters and golden sands.
