Wapiti Lodge

The elk or wapiti is the second largest species within the deer family, Cervidae, and one of the largest terrestrial mammals in its native range of North America and Central and East Asia. The word "elk" originally referred to the European variety of the moose, Alces alces, but was transferred to Cervus canadensis by North American colonists.

As you arrive in Wapiti, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views of the Shoshone National Forest, which surrounds the town on all sides. The forest is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elk, bison, grizzly bears, and wolves, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. You can explore the forest on foot, horseback, or even by taking a scenic drive along the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, which passes through the area.

One of the major attractions of Wapiti is the historic Pahaska Tepee Lodge, which was once owned by the legendary American frontiersman, Buffalo Bill Cody. The lodge has been beautifully preserved and now serves as a hotel and restaurant that offers a unique and authentic western experience. You can enjoy delicious meals, relax by the fire, and even go horseback riding or fly fishing in the nearby streams.
