Brasília is the capital city of Brazil and the Federal District. Located in the Brazilian Highlands in the country's Central-West region, it was founded by President Juscelino Kubitschek on 21 April 1960, to replace Rio de Janeiro as the national capital. Brasília is Brazil's third-most populous city after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with a population of 2.8 million. Among major Latin American cities, it has the highest GDP per capita.

Designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer and urban planner Lúcio Costa, Brasilia was built from scratch in the 1950s with the intention of creating a city that was both functional and beautiful. The city is divided into sectors, each with its own purpose and layout, and is centered around a stunning man-made lake.

One of the most impressive sights in Brasilia is the National Congress building, which is shaped like two giant bowls and houses both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The nearby Supreme Court building is another architectural masterpiece, with its curved lines and stunning glass facade.
